February & March

I have mostly stuck to my New Years Resolution.

February

My husband's cousin passed away this past June at the young age of 30. He was diagnosed with cancer and a week later he was gone.  The entire family was devastated, it was completely overwhelming to watch the family try to make sense of what happened so quickly and for no reason at all.

The family pulled together and within a few weeks a scholarship fund was set up to support future soccer players at the high school Scott attended. My husband asked that we contribute to the scholarship fund in February because we could not attend their candlelight bowling event. There is another event coming up on June 7, 2014 - a golf outing. If you are in the Chicago area - please consider supporting this amazing family and their desire to keep Scott's memory alive.

March

So I broke the rules in February by not volunteering my time every other month. Perhaps I'll work on doing 2 months in a row to make up for it. In March I found my sorority's alumni group in Phoenix and they are more active than they were a couple years ago when I looked into it. They were setting up an event to cook dinner for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. We are on the calendar:

We started at Julie's house and decorated sugar cookies, it was nice to get to know some new girls that enjoy doing what I do. Then we went to the Ronald McDonald House on Cambridge and set up a delicious taco bar! We got a tour of an apartment and the facility along with the community kitchen that was just redone. They are able to rent the rooms for $15- $25 per night! So if you don't have the time to help donate then think about a small donation to help a struggling family out. The facility is beautiful and anything that can help these families in unfortunate situations is very much appreciated!

Sorry I didn't take pictures of the taco bar or the other girls I met that helped out - I promise to get better going forward!
